Since 2010, the International Day of the Older Generation is celebrated on 01 October. To draw attention to the current situation of the older generation, the association HelpAge has found an unusual way adress the issue and collect donations.
With slogans such as "Yo old-timer, what's up?" or "Let's go old-timer", more than 1,000 colorfully painted hand sticks were distributed at various locations in the city of peace Osnabrück on October 01, 2020. These were donated by the Ossenberg company and designed with the support of students from the EMA Gymnasium Osnabrück, the Ursulaschule, the IGS Eversburg and the Astrid-Lindgren School from Bohmte.
Anyone who finds a painted cane in Osnabrück can take it home for a small donation. The patron of this great campaign is mayor Wolfgang Greisert.
"I am happy to support such a colorful and creative campaign that gives older people a face and offers support options for a dignified life in old age," says Greisert.
Roughly 15% of the world's population suffers from disability, and as many as 46% the elderly live with one or more disabilities. The people most affected by disability are those in developing countries, especially older women. The most common maladies in old age are caused by poor mobility. Even a simple walking cane can help many people by improving their mobility and allowing them to once again participate in social life.
We are happy to support this great movement with our products. If you also want to help a grandma or grandpa in Myanmar, the Philippines or in Tanzania, please donate. With a donation of 10 € a walking cane can be financed, with 20 € a walker and with 75 € even a wheelchair. For all the grandmas and grandpas in the world who need our help.
